At this point, I hope they split the iPod line into iPods (music / video) and iBooks (music, ebooks).
I agree that a split might be in order, but I'd have to disagree on that split. If a split makes sense (and i'd have to see potential products to commit one way or the other), it should be between iPods (music) and multi-media pods (ebooks, video, and no reason to get rid of music, so leave it in). video and reading both require looking at the screen and less frequent input, and therfore would work well with a big screened, controls on back or sides style device. But if my ipod could fit in the credit card slot of my wallet and somehow still be able to be controlled, I'd buy it and put it there.

I think it's really funny (sad) that all the haters come out against RS. First off could you sound like bigger snots that RS is too lowbrow to buy your apple product from them. They're a retailer, that has survived by evolving when their core business has been decimated by the fact that technology in general is cheaper and more widely available than ever. Not for nothing, but the very products we're all coveting and supporting to no end, have evolved from garage built computers that were probably 90% RS parts!!!
I'm an Apple believer, and terribly disappointed that living in NYC I can't walk into a company store and walk out with my $800 appliance. Tomorrow morning the RS 1 block from my house will open at 9AM, and I'll walk out in 5 minutes with a product that I haven't been able to get in 3 weeks, after 'stopping' in at least 8 times, only to be turned away. The last time the Apple-droid from bum**** actually told me my best bet was to come back at 5AM and wait on line!

Hehe. You are the one falling for the myth about MP myth. DXOMark has a lengthy article that explains why more megapixels is NOT a bad thing. It does NOT negatively influence low light capabilities, contrary to popular belief.
I never disagreed with that, but that's not what I'm talking about-- I'm talking about sensor capabilities, which is the core issue in the MP myth. Just because something has 3 more MP than something else doesn't make it better at all... the quality of the sensor is essential, no? I'm not saying its a bad thing, but to say that this 5MP camera from this manufacturer is worse than this 8MP camera from a different manufacturer solely based on MP... that's the crux of the MP fallacy.

what a shame that a company wants to get their products in the hands of the common folk. How dare they try to sell to anyone but the self-appointed elitist crowd?

"Move on"? :( Seems kind of testy.
Not testy, just telling you my way of dealing with d-bags.
My point being, playing with randoms is inevitable, and a necessity. After all, if one didn't play with randoms, how would one meet 'nice players' to add to your friend's list?
Sure, playing with randoms is going to happen. But my point is, if you play 5 games of Team Slayer, the chance that all 35 of the randoms you would play against are jerks is minimal, at best. In 5-10 games, you could find yourself 15-20 good, polite players to add to your friends list, and never have to deal with it again.
I imagine it isn't hard to do, but Live seems to be made to play with players from all over. Playing games with only friends, seems to be rather counter productive.
My friends list isn't filled with only people I know in real life. I have friends from all over, that I've met playing all kinds of games, and meet more all the time when my friends bring in some of their friends to play. I'm not suggesting you build up a wall, and close the community out, just to make sure the d-bags don't get to you. I'm just saying, the tools are available, and if you use them properly, your experience will be much better.
Playing with friends not only rids you of having to play with crappy randoms, but it also adds more fun to it as well. If you play with people you know, the communication is better, the team play is better, and often times you'll win more. To me, that seems like the ultimate objective. Have fun and win. I accomplish that by playing primarily with friends. You're free to do whatever you want.
The issue being that Halo proportionately seems to have a greatest number of jerks playing, as compared to say other games. The shame is that even Bungie realized the crappier part of their community, and made such settings as hearing only your team, or even an option to mute all other players.
As I mentioned earlier, when you have one of the largest online communities, you will, by nature of the Law of Averages, have a large number of jerks. No game is immune to this. Forza, COD, Warhawk, Uncharted 2, Burnout, etc. I can't think of a single game that I've played online in which I haven't run into online d-bags. It is just the way the online community works (see PA comic below ;)). MacRumors is a nice, big online community, based around a simple consumer electronics company. That doesn't mean there aren't jerks abound in here. Instead of saying it's a "shame" that Bungie gives those options, you should be happy they do, use them, and then start wondering why more games don't.

I'm amazed that you investigated so heavily the CPU usage and yet STILL came to the wrong conclusion, that this is Apple's fault.
For the record, you're completely wrong that FLASH works well on anything but Windows PCs.
Did you not notice in those numbers that FLASH doesn't work well on ALL MACS ON ALL BROWSERS ??? And FLASH is the reason for crashes on both POWERPC and INTEL Macs, even brand new Macs, from what I'm reading in other threads here on MacRumors.
So, how again is this Apple's fault that FLASH doesn't work on any recent Apple platform, iPhone, PowerPC, or INTEL?
Because Adobe doesn't care and has written crappy software. It has nothing to do with Apple.
Not much else crashes any of my Macs, so how is this Apple's fault?
Can you imagine what would happen if Apple let the current version of FLASH on the iPhone and peoples' phones started crashing like their Apple Macs are now? It would be on FOX NEWS!
Apple's making the right call here. The ball is in Adobe's court to get it right first on Macs.
Then I'll insist Apple let FLASH on the iPhone, but not a day sooner.
And I will bet dollars to doughnuts that your Android prediction turns out wrong too, FLASH or no FLASH.
If FLASH is an epic fail on both INTEL and POWERPC Macs and with both Safari and Firefox on Macs, how the hell do you think it's going to do on the iPhone?
This is NOT Apple's problem in my opinion. Adobe has just dropped the ball.
If FLASH crashes on most people's Macs, how do you think it will fair on the iPhone, since it's mostly the same browser?
Please people, think before you put your feet in your mouths.
Its epic fail on WinMO and Windows and Linux.

I like this guy :-)
Yeah he can really make analogies which really sticks - as well as leading us the faithful few towards the holy land of home electronics - integration with your integrity intact (one of the things with the design of the macintosh was that steve wanted the computer to look more like a human - some of the more esoteric ideas such as computer ears on the sides might have been scrapped, but I believe the user/computer interface is more like communication between two humans rather than a human and an inanimate computer)

We heard something really similar to that when every other company released video-playing mp3 players before Apple did, and Jobs said he didn't see anybody wanting to have portable video. Well, Apple bit its tongue and released it, calling it "innovation".
I'm a big iPod fan (i've purchased 3) but wireless capabilities is the way of the future. I don't see ourselves in 10 years still being limited by wired headphones and such. Maybe it'll be easier than the Zune (haven't seen the demo) but the idea of beaming a song for somebody else to download/hear is pretty cool to me.
Nah, I think Job's is right that fact that you don't have wireless sharing gives you the "excuse" to get closer, which is always useful ;).

Hopefully that something invovles isight/front row displays that are more reasonable in price.
Agreed. Dream prices:
20"= $450
24"=$600
30"=$1000
They could always fill the $2k dispay spot with a 50", HDTV Capable display that supported 20 million pixles :D

wow, what is the point of even advertising a smaller box, the nano box was miniscule as it is. It just makes you wonder what they have cut out of the old box to make this box smaller, maybe they make you buy the dock and ipod-> usb cable, and the ipod plug all seperately.

i thinking of getting an ipod but i need to know your opinion of it should i stick with an mp3 player? what can an ipod do that an mp3 player can't?
You might want to take this to a new thread.
That said, an iPod is an "MP3 player", but one that has a great user interface and complete integration with iTunes and the iTunes Music Store where you can buy music, audiobooks and even videos.

Um free is for a limited time only and you have to buy a $1000+ computer. Anyone who buys a $1000+ Mac should get a break on an iPod too. There is a reason why there is a whole education section on the Apple Online Store. Without students support, the iPod wouldn't be anywhere near the cultural icon that it is. Guess what, most students don't have a set income but their patronage is very important to Apple and iPods in general. And I'm 25, Mommy and Daddy haven't payed for me for a long time. So now who is trolling. (Hint: the guy who puts offensive posts up with big upper cased red letters)
Duh. I knew you weren't rich because you're a student and because you're complaining about money. That's why I said "you sound like a spoiled brat," not "you are a spoiled brat." And get over yourself, Apple owes you nothing. If you don't like their products or their pricing, then don't buy their stuff. It's as simple as that. I won't be replying again, I'm done with this conversation.

I don't know why so many people are against 3D. It sounds like people who say "Get off my lawn!!" Sure, 3D isn't fully developed yet, but even the 3DS is pretty neat and adds a whole new level of gameplay and immersion. It is surely the next level of tangible UI.

I was just about to post this. The UK store appears down for me at the moment. This is based on the edu price (the UK edu store is up for me).
I'm teetering the edge of buying the black one. If that price was for a 1x1GB memory config I'd be a lot more tempted.
I think I can wait until the MBP 13.3 that will be announced in January (alongside the touchscreen ipod). :D
I wouldn't get the black. I had one, and it looked great fresh from the box, but looked old and tired 30 minutes later with grease marks all over it. Stick with the white as the smooth plastic finish doesn't show marks and is easier to clean.
