Yeah, only take that portion of my statement and  to it.
You've got to admit, you kind of deserve that response, if you going to cite a commercial to back up your argument.

Currently the Mac App Store has no way of offering an upgrade to existing Mac software. I don't see that changing.
I suspect that all these apps will be stripped of their sample media. They're all quite small without them. Perhaps Apple will sell those files separately on their own on DVDs?
Yeah, we'll see. I guess it all depends on what Apple decides, eh? Unless they've condensed 7-9 apps into 1-4 and ditched all the sample media for livetype, soundtrack pro, motion, DVD studio pro, etc then I strongly doubt it'll be an app store exclusive. I can tell you though, our IT staff won't be very fond of having to go through the Mac app store to keep our entire AV dept up and running.
Aperture is still sold in a box at a higher price, and I'm sure all pro apps will be as well for the foreseeable future. FCP and Aperture as stand alone apps are relatively small, and aperture doesn't ship with 7 discs.

One thing I really hate about this Zune thing is the amount of free publicity Microsoft has gotten.
For months on end we've been bombarded with Zune-friendly "news" articles calling it an "iPod killer". Even before Microsoft had a name for it, before they had any sort of design for it, while it was still vaporware, the media kept hammering home, "iPod killer" while seeming to drool over the prospect.
There's STILL no actual product on the store shelves.
It's disgusting, really.

You're right, after I look closely at this image. Dunno how it seemed so clearly brushed metal to me before.
Agreed, nothing new here.

And don't have a single 12/13in model in existence? I don't think so.
Some people want small form factors. It's a shame Apple thinks form factors and power are in a 1-to-1 relationship. Some people want powerful laptops with smaller displays (12in PB is no more) or less powerful laptops with larger displays (15in iBook is no more). Hopefully Apple learns to stop limiting themselves in this way. Think differently differently.
Exactly what I have been demanding, too...not tiny crap with 9" or 10" displays like those from Sony or others...I just want a new 12" MB or MBP...15" or 17" are too much to carry around for those that don't need all the bells and whistles...my wish:
MB or MBP Core 2 Duo 12"
1Gb RAM
120Gb HD
Backlit Keyboard (if technology allows)
128Mb discreet GPU
Optical drive (no need for DL)
iSight
Is that really so hard?

I really hope they put a graphics card in it (even 64MB) and an 802.11N capable wifi card.
I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe a price drop, though.

You make some great points and I think the key to a successful reduction in military spending is to reduce it over time. A sudden 30-50% cut in the budget would be horrific and not just for a military program but in any program. But why not aim to reduce it from 600 billion today, to 400 billion fifteen years from now? The key is discipline but such a trait is not something I have seen Washington demonstrate. :(
I'll agree with this. In fact, it's such a good idea that we should adopt it across the board. No government spending should be reduced more than 2% per yer in order to soften the blow to those who benefit from that spending.
Is my eyeroll evident?

good. this should stop all those Waiting For C2D MB threads...
HA!
You know, these statements are becoming the new "Powerbook G5 Next Tuesday". That means really annoying, almost as bad as the "Waiting for Merom Macbook" threads themselves! And it's HILARIOUS! :D
I don't care about a new graphics card, but I do want my Macbook to have as good a battery life as possible. I also want it to be quiet, and cool.
Here's to neat Merom Macbooks Tomorrow!

If you think about it, it's not all too surprising that some of these "professionals" are getting so worked up and sulky over this release. The notion that "pro editing" can belong to just about anyone, rather than an exclusive circle of elites, poses an existential crisis. Apple's re-thinking of editing is also a re-thinking of what it means to be "professional". The announcement sheds light on a future in which their "advanced", learned techniques are no longer advantageous. The "industry pros" are facing the plight of impending impotence. It's not something anyone would really openly admit, but I think they're feeling a bit naked, stripped of their status.
Who can blame them for being pissy?being one of them, I can honestly say were just a bunch of jaded ***** ;)
Yea this is old news to me. I was there when FCP first came out and the Premiere/Media100 folks were in a tiff about Apple getting to close to the mid-range cause then Avid was around 100k for a turn-key system.
its old news, everyone likes to complain.
I was at the SuperMeet still fresh from hearing Avid and Kevin Smith lovefest.
I did not see that demo coming ;)
I was floored and cant wait to see what the future holds for all interfaces.
Please folks get off the iMovie already.
This new GUI reminds me of a lot of older/newer higher-end apps such as Resolve, Composer (SGI sad answer to After Effects), etc...
Its not iMovie unless you treat it like iMovie :P
