So do you have to be connected to an unknown network (like in a coffee shop or bookstore) for this to work?

I'm actually not in the city, so I don't have anyone around me that would be close enough to connect. Could it still work though?

They also wanted to push their own solutions (quicktime) and so maybe they haven't tried particularly hard to make Flash work. It hasn't been a top priority. It obviously is a bit of a problem now and they need to do something about it.

Why does Apple have to do something about it? Haven't they given Adobe all the info (specs, requirements and restrictions) that they need to make a flash player for the iPhone? If Adobe can't do it within those parameters, then it's on them.

bodes well for Linux and OS X...

I wonder what MS is doing in Vista to prevent piracy? At that price I'm sure a lot of people will be tempted to pirate it.

Yeah, but they have to do something about the rampant scratching and the ease with which one can break it. Fully metal one seems like a good way to do that.

Exactly. The uproar from consumers concerning their scratched iPod video's and nano's last year was pretty loud. Just about everyone who had a new iPod video or nano commented on how easily it scratched or scuffed. Especially considering an iPod video should have a crystal clear image free from scratches, you can bet apple has heard and understands that as well. Whether we'll see metal enclosures, who knows? Though it's looking more likely, at least from the consistency of the rumors (ahem.) Regardless, I think it's safe to say the new iteration of the iPod video especially will see scratch resistance improvements.

Scratching the screen of a standard MP3 playing iPod didn't really matter all that much. You didn't really look at the screen anyway (unless it was a photo iPod.) We do care if it's an iPod that we watch video's, TV shows, and movies on. I hope the next iPod video device I buy has some better safegaurds against scratching and scuffing, because I don't like any of the 3rd party solutions.

Why is it that some people stubbornly keep calling it Memron, when it's obviously Merom?

    Maybe it's a just a simple mistake?

You would own one now if you had ordered when they had a 3-4 week lead time.

No you would not. As there have been no more in the country. Its all good, I'm more than happy to wait. As per in my post 3-4 weeks stayed like that for 2 weeks, then 2-3 weeks stayed like that for 2 weeks into the 3rd week now.
I'm sure Apple are doing their best and are likely under the pump due to a very large interest & Japan disasters.

When they do come in, I'm sure there will be oodles of them around.

I think you're choosing to miss my point.
No, I see what you're saying, I just disagree with it...
Whether Halo had only 4 people, 3 of them would be @$$hats
...and this is where you are wrong, in my opinion. But eh, whatever. You're free to whatever opinion you want, and free to play with whoever you want. I'll stick to playing with friends and good players, and having a great time while I do.

    --------------------

Bungie released some more details about the Matchmaking changes that are coming tomorrow. They are updating and adjusting some of the playlists and map loadouts after observing these last few weeks of play. Here is what they say is coming....

    Team Slayer
SWAT is taking one in the face (being removed) and the weighting for all other gametypes will be adjusted to fall in line with voting data. Expect surprise, surprise more traditional Slayer offerings to appear.

    Team SWAT
SWAT gametypes that are removed from other playlists are being incorporated into their own, unique playlist with adjustments made to modes and maps based on voting data (farewell SWAT on Hemorrhage, you sucked and everybody hated you).

    Team Objective
Powerhouse will now feature several more gametypes, including 1 Flag and Stockpile. Because Powerhouse is awesome and we dont get to play it enough.

    Multi Team
Rocket Race is being added. You win by staying on the Mongoose and racing to the checkpoints. (Oh, who am I kidding, youre just going to hop off and try to assassinate people, arent you?)

    Big Team Battle
SWAT and Classic are being removed and the frequency of Snipers is being reduced based on you guessed it voting data.

    Arena Doubles
Boardwalk and Pro options are both being removed. Default Zealot is being replaced with Arena Zealot, a map variant which features modified initial player spawns and a soft-kill zone in spaaaaaace.

    Team Arena
Pro options are being removed. Arena Zealot (details above), is being added.

    Score Attack
Credit earn rates for Gruntpocalypse are being reduced to fall more in line with other modes.

    General Matchmaking
Alongside the major alterations listed above, a myriad of much needed fixes and tweaks to the experience will also go into effect on Tuesday, including a metric ton of small, but annoying bugs and gameplay issues that weve identified and earmarked for eradication. As these updates go live, Jeremiah will publish the full details to our Optimatch forum so you can pore over the subtle nuances of each individual change.

I'm pretty happy with the changes, more or less. I wish Team Snipers would get its own playlist, like it had in Halo 3, so it could be removed entirely from the standard Team Slayer and Big Team playlists. I'm also happy that they've said the Scorpion is being swapped for a Wraith on Hemorrhage, so that is good as well, as the Tank would more often than not, just end up ruining the game. But I'm SUPER happy that Rocket Race is coming back!! YES!!! I'm going to be playing a ton of that, just as I did with Halo 3. :D

Austrian Store is down as well.

Take note, that Austria is NOT among those countries (US, UK, Germany,...) who are supposed to get iPad's in April.

Just compare the German and Austrian iPad site

So why WHY WWHHHYYYY are they updating the Austrian Store as well ???

Sorry, but for me this story doesn't pass the sniff test.

Me neither. This is a weird story. I want to laugh along with it, but something doesn't ring true to me.

What if "wife said no" because "husband" spent all of his time with gadgets instead of the family? Apple sending it back (even if "free,") doesn't address the situation properly (or even politely.)

A child does not naturally grow up to be socially responsible or kind. They naturally grow up to be self-centered and violent unless a parent or authority teaches them otherwise.

As negative as I think religion can be, it has set a code of conduct for people that enables cooperation and empathy for others. Although we don't need religion to teach people morals, we need some agreed upon code of conduct.

You might say that the laws of a country serve that purpose, but they don't. They are simply rules everyone must follow and any despotic ruler can set awful laws that can hurt people. Therefore, the code of conduct has to be separate from the law.

If atheism has any future, its needs some type of unified, agreed upon code.

I find it kind of embarrassing that Apple is choosing this as an outlet.

This will become the must have kid present this year. What's the matter? Not feeling so elitist anymore? It's about an iPad in every pot.

The Bible says many good things and many bad things. I was highlighting some of the bad things to show how people do pick and choose. Consider Deuteronomy 13-

6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers ...

9 ... thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God.

This is pretty clear, and no amount of fitting in with the rest of the Bible or whatever is going to help. Thankfully, people ignore this today. In other words, people apply a moral standard when reading the Bible. The Bible doesn't lead to morality.

    *bold emphasis mine

I'm sorry friend, but you aren't understanding the full context of what you are reading. The old testament, in this case Deuteronomy, does not stand alone, but is correctly interpreted in light of the new testament and the fulfillment of the law that Christ accomplished through the incarnation and his death.

God gave the law in the old testament to serve a specific purpose at a specific time to a specific people. From a theological stand point it's purpose was to show that no amount of work or good behavior can bring one to God. The law serves to highlight our separation from God in that none of us can measure up. The wages of sin are death and thus under the law death was the punishment. Under the new covenant Christ's death has paid the price of sin and we no longer need to live under the law.

So you see, you are guilty of doing what it is you are saying that others are doing. You are picking/choosing a verse out of the old testament and presenting it as if it was a universal command to all believers for all time.

It's like when you tell a child to play in the front yard but not to cross the street. You are giving them a specific command for a specific time with a specific purpose in mind (their safety). It would be silly to say that your intention was for that child to never cross a street in their life. They are forever forbidden from leaving the front yard because at one point you told them not to cross the street.

I'm not trying to pick on you or attack you personally, I'm simply trying to help you better understand. People often make the error of thinking the Bible is written like an instruction manual or a recipie book. It's not that simple. You must read it in context and it's context is the entirety of the 66 books contained within it. Additionally, the books are written in different genres of literature and thus various literary tools are used to correctly interpret them.

For you to quote Deuteronomy as evidence that the Bible "literally" tells believers today they should stone people is incorrect. It's also silly to say "thanfully people today ignore this". This statement highlights your misunderstanding of what you are quoting. Believers don't need to ignore a law/command that was never intended for them. Do you ignore horse and buggy traffic laws that were written centuries ago? You don't need to, those laws were not written for you, but for a specific people at a specific time.

Much of the old testament is narrative historical literature and it allows believers to understand how God has worked throughout history to reveal himself. To take those narratives and claim they are commands for today's people is both silly and a misrepresentation of what the Bible actually says.

    @mscriv
I think that my objection to a book like this for atheists is that there is no reason to believe that the author of the book's morals or opinions are anymore important or better than anyone else's.

I'm disagreeing with barkomatic (and do understand what he is saying). I'm saying religion does not provide the basis for modern morality. I'm saying a structured moral code isn't necessary- it is already there as it is in part innate and in part social.

I understand these difference of opinion and thank you for your clarification.

Yes. It fixed my week 21 Macbook that just got RSS two days ago. Even if your Macbook runs nicely now, it could get RSS in the future and when you call Apple all they're going to tell you is to install the firmware update.

All software has bugs. It's a matter of prioritizing new features vs. bug fixes when one puts out new releases. For many (maybe even most) features or bug fixes you wanted, chances are he had thought of them and prioritized them rationally. I wouldn't burn him at the stake for not implementing something you wanted sooner. :)

i feel like this would be a real battery killer... maybe not if you are just adding a few apps and cd's but when i sync ~6gb of music, contacts, calanders, apps, etc. it's a pretty long process over USB... don't even want to know how long it would take over wi-fi, nor would I want to sit around the house for a few hours to finish updating my phone all while the battery is getting raped.

I would imagine just using your dock plugged into a wall anywhere in the house while your device gets updated - or maybe the new devices will use some sort of Induction Charge and just lay it down on the mat and it will charge and also sync/update wirelessly.
